Install RetroX

RetroX is not in the Play Store, so you need to get the RetroX.apk file first and then install it on your device. The install instructions are different for mobile devices like phones and tablets and for Android TV and Google TV devices. Follow the guide according to your Android device.

Note that we have been alerted that some people have started adding retro gaming apps named RetroX to the Play Store. They are using our name to redirect users to their app, leading them to think they are getting the real RetroX. We have never been in the Play Store and probably never will.

Installing RetroX on phones and tablets

Download the Android APK file for RetroX with the button below and open it with any file browser (Cx File Explorer, Fossify). Once installed, continue with the First Steps section below.

Installing RetroX on Android TV / Google TV devices

There are many methods to install RetroX on TV devices — here are our two favorites:

Method 1: Use the downloader app

  1. Install the AFTVnews Downloader app from Google Play Store or
    Amazon App Store.
  2. Open the Downloader app and use this code: 49265.
  3. Continue with the First Steps section below.

Method 2: Use the Send files to TV app

  1. Download the RetroX.apk file on your phone.
  2. Install the Send files to TV app on your phone and TV.
  3. Open the Send files to TV app on your phone and TV so they pair.
  4. Use the app to send the RetroX.apk file to your TV.
  5. Once received on your TV, follow the instructions on the screen to finish the install.
  6. Continue with the First Steps section below.

Note that RetroX is free to try with full features for five days. Once the period ends, you can continue using it with some restrictions, but at any moment you can purchase an Activation Code for your user account. This will give you the full features back again.

First steps

RetroX will create a user account for you, so you can store your favorites, playing history, progress, etc., with that account. At first you start with a free account, but after five days you need to activate it with an Activation Code to keep using it.

  • If you have a registered account (email address) on your device, for example, a Google Account, you will be able to use that account without any password. Just select the account when asked and RetroX will create a RetroX account with that address.
  • If you don’t have a registered account on your device, or you want to use a different account, just go to login.retrox.tv to create a password for your email address, then use that email and password to log in.

Once logged in, RetroX will be ready to start loading your games. Just follow the onscreen instructions or go to the Adding games page for detailed instructions.
